Dr. Kawan is a General Pediatrician, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In February 2009, the Joint Commission’s Pregnancy and Related Core Measure set was updated to include exclusive breast milk feeding as one of five core perinatal quality measures. The new perinatal core measure set became available for hospitals April 1, 2010. Dr. Kawan will address how hospitals may implement this new quality indicator, improve exclusive breastfeeding rates, and discuss evidenced-based practices for the promotion of breastfeeding in the hospital setting.
